Vibhuti is holy ash. Vibhuti means “bright” or “powerful.” Vibhuti represents the purity of our soul. Vibhuti is given to us as a blessing after puja in the temple. The devas can see us better when we wear vibhuti. There are three ways to apply it. The first is across the forehead in three wide stripes. The second is lightly across the entire forehead. The third is a short stroke above the third eye. The pottu is a round mark on the forehead. Some kids call it a cool dot. It signifies divine or psychic sight. These important marks identify us as Hindus and as Saivites.§

விபூதி என்பது புனித நீறு அல்லது புனித சாம்பல். விபூதி என்றால் பிரகாசம் அல்லது சக்தி வாய்ந்தது என்று பொருளாகும். விபூதி நமது ஆத்மாவின் புனிதத்தை பறைசாற்றுகிறது. கோயிலில் பூசைக்குப் பிறகு வழங்கப்படும் விபூதி இறைவனால் ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்பட்டு தரப்படுகிறது. நாம் விபூதி ஆணிந்திருந்தால் தேவர்கள் நம்மை நன்றாகப் பார்க்க முடியும். விபூதியை மூன்று விதமாக அணியலாம். முதலாவது நெற்றியில் இடப்பக்கத்திலிருந்து வலப்பக்கமாக மூன்று அகன்ற கோடுகளாக (திரிபுண்டரமாக) அணிவது. இரண்டாவது நெற்றி முழுதும் இலேசாக விபூதியைப் பூசுவது. மூன்றாவது நமது மூன்றாவது கண்ணுக்கு மேலே சிறு அகன்ற கோடாக விபூதியைப் பூசிக்கொள்வது. பொட்டு நமது நெற்றியில் வட்டமான அடையாளமாக வைத்துக் கொள்வது. சில குழந்தைகள் அதைக் குளிர்ந்த பொட்டு என்பர். அது தெய்வீகத்தை உணர்த்துகிறது. மேற் கூறப்பட்ட முக்கியமான அடையாளங்களை அணிவதால் இந்துக்கள் என்றும் சைவ சமயத்தவர்கள் என்றும் கூறுகிறது. §

ஒரு சிறுவன் அவன் நெற்றியில் விபூதியை மூன்று கோடுகளாக-திரிபுண்டரமாக இட்டுக் கொள்கிறான். ஒரு சிறுமி, தன் மோதிர விரலை உபயோகித்து அவள் நெற்றியில் சிவப்பு பொட்டை (குங்குமம்) இட்டுக் கொள்கிறாள். §
Vibuthi adalah abu suci. Vibuthi bermaksud “cerah” atau “berkuasa.” Vibuthi melambangkan kesucian roh kita. Ia diberikan kepada kita sebagai lambang keberkatan selepas upacara sembahyang di kuil. Para dewa dapat melihat kita dengan lebih jelas lagi apabila kita memakai vibuthi. Terdapat tiga cara untuk memakainya. Pertama, tiga garisan melintang di dahi. Cara kedua adalah disapu pada seluruh dahi. Ketiga adalah satu garisan di bahagian atas mata ketiga (third eye). Pottu adalah satu lambang bulat ditengah dahi. Ada kanak-kanak yang memanggilnya “cool dot.” Ia melambangkan penglihatan suci ataupun psikik. Tanda-tanda ini melambangkan kita sebagai orang Hindu dan Saivite.§

Le vibhuti est la cendre sacrée. Ce mot signifie «brillant» ou «puissant.» Il représente la pureté de notre âme. On le reçoit comme bénédiction après la puja au temple. Les dévas nous voient mieux si nous portons du vibhuti. Il y a trois façons de le mettre: le long du front en trois larges bandes, frotté légèrement sur tout le front, ou en une courte trace au-dessus du troisième œil. Le pottou est la marque ronde portée sur le front. Certains jeunes l’appellent «le point cool.» Il évoque la vision divine, psychique. Tous ces signes nous identifient comme Hindous Sivaïtes.§
