Gurudeva's Statement on Sept. 11th

We continue with tributes for Gurudeva:

================== Mayor of Kauai, the Honorable Maryanne Kusaka:

Aloha, dear friends.

We were all prepared for this day. And yet, we were not prepared.

How could we possibly think that we could prepare for the loss of such a courageous man? The loss of such a dear and devoted friend?

Gurudeva touched each of our lives in a very special way. He touched the lives of millions of people the world over.

Gurudeva was a shining example of goodness in a world sorely in need of one. He was a wise mentor to many. He was a kind and attentive father to Kauai's children..and families of all faiths. His profound leadership inspired intense love and loyalty in his followers.

Although Gurudeva is no longer physically with usƒwe will feel his presence in our lives always. He will be ever hovering in our collective soul Ü a white dove Ü a vision of beauty and purity. He will continue to show himself in all that is goodƒas we who loved him follow in his radiant light.

How blessed we are to have had Gurudeva in our lives. We do not fully realize the greatness of Gurudeva. Perhaps we were too close to himƒso privileged were we to have him walk in our midst. How could we fully appreciate what he meant to millions of people around the world?

Every man wishes to leave a legacy. Gurudeva's legacy will be forever with usƒas his temple becomes a reality in the valley he called home. For generations to comeƒGurudeva's light will shine from the templeƒuniting his followers and those who loved him the world over.

And so let us remember the teachings of a great man. Let us imagine a world living in concert with his vision. Most of all, let us give life to the lessons Gurudeva taught us.

In that wayƒwe can think of his passing, not as a loss, but as a gift. A gift to his beloved Kauaiƒa gift to the world.

Somehow, I think he would want us to do that.

Aloha.

Sisters Hema and Alka Patel pilgrimaged to Kauai last week to attend the Jayanti (birthday) celebration of Gurudeva at our Kadavul Hindu Temple. They have known Gurudeva since very young and used to attend our old temple in San Francisco. They met Gurudeva with their parents for the last time at the Embassy Suites hotel in San Francisco, when Gurudeva passed through last August on his way back from the Europe Innersearch. In this photo they are personally "connecting" for the first time with Bodhinatha, Gurudeva's successor. They asked Bodhinatha for guidance in their religious routines and also expressed their wish to move forward on the spiritual path by studying in Himalayan Academy. They enjoy reading the daily Master Course lesson on e-mail.

CyberTalk: Parents are the first gurus. This will be my message to parents in Mauritius, Malaysia and Singapore when I visit them this September. Everything starts in the home. To change behavior in the world, we need to first change it in the home. Children taught that violence is acceptable and a way to solve problems. Swamis and spiritual teachers in unusual position of being the second guru. Swais often spend years helping individuals undo what their first gurus, their parents, did before progress can be made if they didn't do a good job. Many people have terrible self-esteem because of their parent saying things like "How can you be so stupid?" This can be fixed.

Bodhinatha will be happy to hold "Prasnottara Satsang" -- "Questions and Answers" over the telephone with any Hindu religious societies, Hindu youth groups, Radio talk show hosts etc. All you need is a phone with a speaker and an enthusiastic audience. Arrangements may be made in advance by sending email to Sadhaka Mahadevan

Mr. Palaniappan was a frequent visitor of Gurudeva's Palani Temple in San Francisco years ago.

After three weeks of spectacularly clear dry weather we have started to pray to the rain Gods on behalf of all our trees and little "keki" plantings (babies, kids)... They began to respond today with a build up of clouds on the back of Mount Waialeale, the source of our sacred Wailua River. This is a remarkable shot, showing the tip of the mountain in perfect relief.

Yogaswami said:"

"The beauty of love, who can know?
Who doth know the wonder of Grace
In this big, wide and wonderful world?
It gleams in all objects of the universe.

The macrocosm displays His cosmic activity.
The whole existence vibrates to the rhythm of Letters Five.
Creation and maintenance are sustained by Letters Five.
The wonder of the Letters Five, who doth know?

Early morning is a good time to see the crator that created this island. Kauai is the northern most island on this Hawaii chain and the oldest, having been formed by a volcano millions of years ago. To the northwest the giant rim of the volcano that once spewed hot molten lava up from the depths of the ocean floor, remains somewhat intact, giving us an idea of the origins of this paradise in the Pacific. 500 miles to the southwest of Kauai that fiery opening into the earth's red hot center is still open and forming new land on "Big Island."

Yogaswami said:"

Love is God; Love permeates the world.
Life moves to the harmony of Love.
Love is fulfilling; Love is effacing.
The beauty of Love, who doth know?

He who is transcendent,
He becomes immanent too.
Unveil the Primal Cause by Grace alone
And not by inquiry which eludes.

Coming down from the awesome heights, we see the awesome designs in the flowers around us. Here at the Aadheenam, the monks agressively make good Kauai's claim to be the "Garden Island." The Aadheenam has a growing unofficial reputation, with a life of its own, as "that other botanical garden in Wailua." Everywhere Lord Siva's handiwork and that of the Gods and Devas abounds. A scientist who believed in God once said that the concept of random creation was "ridiculous, akin to imagining that, from a cloud of dust, a 747 could appear from nowhere. In fact, everything I see and the further I investigate, the more am I convinced that behind everything is an Intelligence beyond anything we can conceive of." And of course we know that intelligence has many wonderful executive designers... who do you think designed this?

Yoagswami said:

"He animates all existence
He is the Self of all selves,
Unknown to celestials and twice born.
Who can know the wonder of His Grace?

Many Jayanti Celebrations were held in honor of Gurudeva around the world on January 5th. Over the next few days we bring you hi-lights from various mission centers beginning with the Bangalore carving site in India where Mr. and Mrs. Narayanan and Sheela Venkatakrishnan, USA residents who traveled with Gurudeva on the last Innersearch, were the honored guests.

Captions were sent from the team in Bangalore:

"Mr. Venkatakrishnan from California came for the Jayanthi celebrations. Here. Jiva is showing the ornamental carvings of one of the ceiling Beams (Uttaram).

Center, Narayanan and Sheela Venkatakrishnan, on the left is Sheela's mother from Chennai,on the right Jiva Rajasankara and Chidambaram Sthapathi. This is the sanctum kapothagam stone where the intricate ornamental works and the Guru paramparai is being carved.

Here Jiva is taking some chisels from the blacksmith workshop to show the guests.

Jiva is showing the fine work done on the entrance gopuram capstone. This is the one and only capstone carved from a single stone so far in the world.

Jiva explains to the guests the monumental project in front of the silpis: the ornamental carving on the pillar panels has started. We have 120 designs to complete in 4 months! A big job with limited time but we will do it with perfection with the grace of the Guru.
