Jai Ganesha, who guides us always along the right path!

Welcome today to Janet Mentgen, the founder of Healing Touch, which is having a 500-strong conference on our island this week. That's Janet with Gurudeva this morning, after he honored this special woman with a traditional shawl. Yes, this is the same group that came yesterday, but different people. We think they all heard about the wonderful place and decided to skip a seminar to visit with our Gurudeva.

Satguru Speaks

Today's Cybertalk: Gurudeva's Caution to Healers continues today with his explanation of what happens when someone who is functioning in the lower chakras tries to heal another.

Hinduism Today is doing an article on Janet and her dynamic institution, and she is there showing off a galley proof Gurudeva gave her. With them is Savitri Kumaran, another remarkable lady who organized today's excursion.

Many of today's 130 healers came forward to have Gurudeva autograph a copy of Merging with Siva. This lady in the middle is a healer from Trinidad.

Many books, many signatures. Many wonderful connections made today in the Mango Mandapam under a bright Kauai sky.

We pause to share a little quote from Gurudeva's editing session yesterday, when the subject of how families need to handle their income arose:

  • "If you are going to control your income, start by controlling your emotions."
  • To which he later added:

  • "Money is cold, so you need to be cool when you deal with it."

  • Gurudeva honors Janet Mentgen.

And more books. As he signed each one, Gurudeva chatted with the people about their spiritual life and his insights into healing.

Many visitors wanted to explore our Mini Mela too, the little shop we have here with spiritual items, altar supplies, Aum Namasivaya bracelets and such

Then they took a tour of the grounds.

That's the volcano that lies in our backyard, extinct for the past 4 million years, but beautiful every morning. We have just passed through the full moon and for a few days more we will get to see the moon just above the mountain as it makes its way toward conjunction with the sun (new moon)

Today we continue with some new photos that arrived from the carving site in Bangalore, India. The first is one of the bhadra pillars, of which there are 26 in the Iraivan Temple hall.

These are ready now for the flat panels to be sculpted with images of Saiva Siddhanta, the next step for these 13-foot-high monoliths.

The topmost and largest stone in the temple, 24,000 pounds of which granite intricately carved.

A close up of the detail. The work begins by quarrying a large piece of rough granite from the side of the hills of Karnataka. Then the young strong apprentices will rough out the basic shapes. The senior silpi, the most highly trained of the artisans, will make marks on the stones with a red chalk/crayon. The other silpis will chip out a thin layer and then he will come by again and make his marks again. Again the apprentices will sllowly, tap, tap, tap, with a soft iron pointed chisel, removing minute bits of granite.

Such a magician's craft, to take an inert rock and make it a work of art, to give it grace and meaning. Slowly the form emerges under the patient, persistent loving hands of our big family of devoted silpis. They work with soft iron hand chisels because only soft iron absorbs the shock of the hammers which would otherwise, with hard chisels, be transferred into the workers arm. With soft chisels they can work all day. But, the soft chisels are dulled in just a few blows and have to sent back to the fires to be heated up and sharpened again. So the forges are running all day long, giving the young boys something to do, untill they are old enough and strong enough to wield a hammer themselves and join in the magical art of their fathers and brothers.

Thank you to all the carvers and to Jiva and his family, for working every day on this magnificent project. Jai to the temple builders of the world.

    THANK YOU, GURUDEVA!

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund are forever, not a one-time gift, so gifts to this fund have an eternal gratitude built into them. They live on, in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund, to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, or traveled or just talked with him, over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.
