January 9, 2000 - Krittika

A busy, busy day at Kauai Aadheenam. A local crew is here doing some major engineering on the new modular offices, our TaskForcers are out on the grounds, a small army of Siva Sevaks and Sivananda Katir is here working on some additions to our website.

If you are interested in the Innersearch Caribbean, please read the note at the end of today's page. The year 2000 travel-study program is already full. But...

New! Satguru Speaks Again!

Cybertalk: Today Gurudeva explains how to keep a Hindu temple running smoothly by making sure that the priests are the Servants of the Gods and never ever the servants of the temple trustees and managers. With Tamil translation!

Saravananathaswami in the background is training Sadhaka Mahadevan to handle the Ekadanta Kulam mailing to people around the world who are studying Merging with Siva.

Yesterday we received this wonderful photo from the Rajam family in California, and gurudeva thought TAKA visitors would enjoy it. It is a Millennium photo, taken on New Year's Eve. Most surprisingly, this is not a Magical Millennium Costume Ball, but a party held to officially open the new $12 million home which Deva Rajam's company, Canyon Construction, recently built for software entrepreneur (and former nuclear submarine acommander) Bob Fenton in Oakland, California.

While the hundreds of other s attending the $500-per-person event wore evening gowns and tuxedos, the Rajams took another path. Gayatri had a special gown tailored from sari fabrics, and her daughter, Shivani, dressed in an elegant sari and had her hair braided in a style that took Meenakshi Palani hours to do, and son Kailas, who attends a military academy, wore his parade dress, complete with medals he has earned in school. Inspired by the December article in Hinduism Today on Hindu men's modern fashions, Deva had a royal outfit tailored for him, complete with turban.

Their entry at the event actually brought audible gasps of approval and wonderment from other guests who were charmed, and not a little surprised, by the elegantly attired builder and his fashion-setting family.

Wow! Nice standard for all to eMulate.

These next few photos are from Bangalore. At our temple carving village there Gurudeva's 74th birthday was elaborately celebrated on January 5th. here Jiva Rajasankara offers sandalwood paste to the Satguru's sandals.

A photo of Gurudeva's feet adorns the flower-bedecked altar.

Arati is offered, the holy lamp.

Jiva leads the ceremonies.

Note the life-size white granite Lingam. This is the one that will be shipped to Kauai soon.

Kannmani, Jiva's wife, looks on.

As do the carvers, gathered for the early morning honoring of the founder of Iraivan Temple.

Jiva places holy ash on the sandals.

Fireworks! Bangalore-style. Note the Iraiva pillars. These 75 craftsmen have labored hard for almost a decade, so they have much to celebrate as they too look kforward to shipping the stones to Kauai.

Young carver trainees light sparklers to celebrate the event. The carving site is a special place, more ashram than workplace, and the men there have all been studying Gurudeva's teachings for years, attending morning pujas and changing their lives, as all who come into gurudeva's circumference must.

Here we all are, the residents of Kauai Aadheenam, gathered in front of the Kadavul Hindu Temple. Colorful group.

There were some Om happenings today, too. This is a satellite photo sent to the editorial offices today from NASA. Notice the ocean currents have formed an Om. OK, it's been digitally tinkered with, but it's still neat.

Today as we conclude TASKA we showcase an Aum drawn by our newest taskforcer, a young man from Illinois, Panshula Ganeshan. Hearing that he has a penchant for art and things of beauty, we asked Panshula to draw an Aum, and this is what he did.

Then we put it into the computer, and...

We expect this will not be the last work of art we see from the talented hands of Panshula, who is serving this month in the Ganapati Kulam along with Kanesha Jotishwara, who is scanning the S. Rajam art collection.

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA!

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund are forever, not a one-time gift, so gifts to this fund have an eternal gratitude built into them. They live on, forever.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund, to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, or traveled or just talked with him, over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.
